It was Indra's Chakra. It makes sense now, seeing as how Indra chakra was reincarnated into Saskue, and what not. And Itachi was the key to Sasuke true power, maybe, just maybe Itachi had some of Indra's power inside of him, And his body wasn't potent or adapt enough to contain it, so he began to become sick. Seeing as how the eyes were always meant for Sasuke.

What if he'd sustained an almost incurable injury during the Uchiha massacre? Since he can't come to Konoha to seek Tsunade or other powerful medics and non even existed among the Akatsuki so he lived with it. After all he annihilated a whole clan; it can't be a flawless victory!

That isn't how reincarnation/transmigration works, they current one with the jumping soul has to die or extract it which would probably still result in death, it can't break and leak, it goes from one to the other, if Itachi had it that means he had it that means Sasuke won't have had it to begin with because he was born far before he killed Itachi.

Besides Hagoromo already said only Madara and Sasuke were the reincarnations

Probably was a fanfic. It was never confirmed to be what it was, but if it had to correlate to the real world, it did look like a cardiovascular disease or Tuberculosis.

Nothing implies or has foreshadowed Itachi having any relationship with Indra, this is pure speculation. Oh, and people can get diseases in other ways, you know? Him having been reinfarnated by Indra in the first place would grant him the capabilities to contain it.

I don't think being a recarnation effects the powers of a person. The Soul is reincarnated only as a chance to achieve what they died thinking for.

Sorry, but I am just getting the feeling that this is just another Sasuke thread in disguise.

Because the final conclusion of the OP's speculation (and that's all it is, pure speculation and no fact) is that Sasuke was stronger than Itachi because he was able to handle Indra's chakra but his brother could not.
