Uhm there is no reason, but there has been a fan hypothesis based by their scientific interpretation of Itachi's disease. They basically say that it is a sign of his disease and increasing chest pains.

I can post the link if interested

If you think about it, it could be to help keep his airway clear of blood with that posture, or help keep his coughing and such to a minimum. But, I doubt it's anything like that.

It's to add emphasis to certain aspects of his character paralleling those of a rōnin: a masterless samurai.

To shield himself from Gai Sensei even though Gai wasn't there yet. Itachi was preventing the scenario of having to fight 6 Gates and Kakashi at the same time

Nice. So the Akatsuki dudes are the Ronins in the ninja world. Well they are all missing-nin rogue ninjas.

Originally Kishimoto decided to made Akatsuki Robes one handed. Anime made it differently.

But to answer your question, since Lord Itachi is full of swag, his body moving on its own.

Isn't that a trick to make the opponent focus on this hand and to gain the advantage?

If you think about it , without his left arm , he would be nearly as strong , so he decided to use it as a trick to make you focus on his hidden hand that has a sha-RING-gan.
