It seems in Japanese there is no distinction between the Raven and the crow. Looking at the two they are nearly identical but for some reason I felt the Raven was more badass than the crow. What do you think ? Karasu means both Raven and Crow. Do you think the crow is cooler than the raven

Ravens and Crows are of the same family, Corvidae. Crows are praised for their intelligence more than ravens are. So the relationship between Crows and Itachi would be much more relevant.

In Japanese mythology, The shinto goddess Amaterasu was also said to transform into a Raven (or the raven transforms into the goddess) as worship of Amaterasu to the exclusion of other kami has been described as “the cult of the sun”.

Is Itachi his summoning contract with crows/raven?
Perhaps. At least that one crow/raven. Maybe it has a unique ability with genjutsu that pairs well with itachi or it can split itself or something like katsuyu. I guess it's more likely whenever we see many birds it's straight genjutsu by itachi but that one bird with shisuis eye was unique. Must've been his contract bird

Crows are associated to death in several cultures. Knowing kishi’s style, he likes to add symbolism to his story, so that’s why he chose crows as itachi’s summon.
