I would fail to see how Itachi would allow himself to be poisoned, and not somehow mention it. If it was during a confrontation with Obito, we'd know about it by now.

Also, your assumption is reasonable. Obito couldn't touch Konoha as long as Itachi was alive. This means not being able to capture Kurama. What if Itachi lived to be eighty? Lol Obito would have had a huge problem.

Nonetheless if it was just poison, Itachi would have found a cure. The man was a prodigy with kage level knowledge at the age of 13, if not younger (according to Hiruzen). And Obito has never been seen using poison of any kind.
