First, it would have led to civil war.. can't deny this.. do you think overthrowing a govt. is that easy?

Second, Obito and Itachi were able to kill Uchihas because that was a surprise attack, no one would have thought that they would do like this so they were unarmed.

Third, there were probable chances of world war because the five nations were very unstable and ready to attack anytime.
1. So a civil war of the Uchiha clan, vs all of Konoha? Good luck Uchihas...

2. Ninja are never unarmed, they can shoot fire from their mouths.

3. yes, but Hiruzen was the strongest of the Five Kage at the time, and the Leaf still carried Minato's reputation as a place NOT to **** with. No other Nation could have done anything

1. Why do you underrate Uchihas so much?

2. Many of them were sleeping, having dinner or just lazying around :| It's still not like in a battle.

3. *Hiruzen fanboyism detected*

Many people think that Itachi killing all Uchihas is unjustified and he did it just because of fun, orders, selfishness, power, etc. But I have to tell you this is not the exact reason. Itachi didn't do it because of any kind of pressure, orders or recretion.
^I don't know where you got that idea from. It's only the few morons (some of which commented in this thread) that have a problem with Itachi doing what he did. He didn't have any better options, he chose the one with the least bloodshed. He's definitely not evil, that's actually very selfless. He's just an antihero. Maybe 90% of the fanbase likes him anyway, then the remaining % are the people that are either indifferent or hate him because they weren't intelligent enough to comprehend the manga correctly.

Itachi admitted he failed and was easily fooled by Obito, who was disguised as Tobi and took on the persona of Madara.

He wasn't easily fooled. He just referred to him as "Madara" because that would have been the only MS user capable. There's no possible way he could have known that it was some random guy that had been saved from a boulder by plot-no-jutsu years ago. Also, the entire world was fooled, barring BZ, Obito himself, Madara, and Kabuto. This is irrelevant.

nothing he just slaughtered his entire family without even trying to resolve the problem.

He was 13 and had no political power. He mentioned the coup indirectly and said it was bad to be so absorbed in the clan. What occured? His father literally ditched him for Sasuke. He tried, he waited, Shisui's KA failed, Danzo gave him the order after Hiruzen was outvoted, he knew his clan was going to die either way, there was nothing he could do. He did his best and he's human, after all.

It's not his fault the massacre occured, just the Fugaku/Uchiha clan/Hiruzen/elders/Obito are to blame.

He did not prevent a civil war. There was never going to be a 100% civil war, there was only rumors from Danzou, who could have been lying.

Second, if there was a civil war, do you really think Hiruzen, Danzou, Itachi, Kakashi, Gai, Jiraiya, Shisui, Asuma, and the rest of the leaf cant defeat the Uchihas? Itachi and Obito did it easily.

and Third, there was not going to be a world war, how could that happen

-When an author states that something will happen, that means it'll happen. Maybe you're one of those people who can't differentiate between anime and real life and think that you're a ninja? When something's canon in fiction, it's canon and you can't argue against it. If it was stated "maybe", then that's left up to interpretation, however, that word was never added. Kishimoto wrote "would".

Also, it wasn't just a rumor from Danzo. Shisui, Hiruzen, Koharu, and Homura said it too. Itachi knew it as well, and he'd actually be the best judge of it was to happen or not considering he knew all the Uchiha's capabilities and was an Anbu who knew how strong the village was. Even Orochimaru, Kabuto, Sasuke, the Hokages, Naruto, and others agreed that the Uchiha would be capable of that after hearing the truth. Don't grasp at straws, mate.

-Shisui was dead, Jiraiya wasn't in the village, Kakashi was half-way decent with his sharingan at the time, Danzo had no sharingan, etc. The Uchiha are the best katon users, can copy techs with sharingan, etc. And there are 100s of them. Orochimaru and his sound fodders destroyed Konoha partially in a day, think of what an Uchiha would do. They were the most powerful clan in Konoha. You mention Obito and Itachi, but that was a planned, surprise attack. Also, those were the two strongest people in Konoha at the time...so much for that logic.

-Because Kishimoto wrote in both the manga and databook that there would have been one. The other nations weren't under an alliance with Konoha at the time, Suna and Konoha were at each other's throats. It's also been shown time and time again that the nations were against each other prior to this war arc. It's definitive that Konoha recovering from a clan attack would be the best time to take control. It's common sense.

Orochimaru and Kabuto said it themselves, Hiruzen was the strongest of the Five Kages, and im not even a hiruzen fan

Hiruzen was the strongest in his prime. Meaning 30 years or so, before the Uchiha massacre. lmao.

He killed babies..

Yeah. All because Madara gave the Uchiha a bad rep and tried to destroy an entire village just because no one wanted him as Hokage. Then, he was going to die so he kidnapped some random Uchiha and manipulated him, who in turn caused the Kyuubi attack that caused the Uchiha to get butthurt and plan to kill Hiruzen and start a little dictatorship. Whilst disrupting the most peaceful time the village has ever had just due to their pride. How quaint.

-Yeah. Itachi killed an entire clan. That includes everyone. And they were going to die either way, meaning the sin isn't on his hands directly, moreso on Hiruzen's/Danzo's/Homura's/Koharu's/Fugaku's/and the rest of the Uchihas. Itachi just had to deal with the pain of such an action. Doing that just shows how much more strong-willed he was.

ot: Itachi's an antihero and he definitely did secure peace for the shinobi world while he was alive. However, I don't agree with the thread, primarily because each new generation secures peace in their own way. Naruto is doing it now, for example.

Please stay back from any kind of character bashing/flaming. You are responsible for what you post here, so please be rational in your comments.

I do not intent to bash any character.

Many people think that Itachi killing all Uchihas is unjustified and he did it just because of fun, orders, selfishness, power, etc. But I have to tell you this is not the exact reason. Itachi didn't do it because of any kind of pressure, orders or recretion. If he were had "ordered" to do so, Danzo wouldn't be afraid of Itachi.

There was a very deep reason behind this.

Let's see the scenario, we saw that BZ manipulated the Uchiha Stone Tablet.

So, because of this, all other Uchihas were cursed by cycle of hatred, except Itachi because he "saw through" it even deeper than anyone could have. He knew that this was all bullshit and cannot be true to be real. So somehow he figured out the real truth behind it. But he couldn't have changed/destroyed the tablet because the authorities of Uchihas would be very upset by this. So he planned out the massacre to eradicate all Uchihas from the planet because it would end the curse of hatred (as with Uchihas) and bring eternal peace. He chose Uchihas because they were the one who were cursed by the cycle of hatred because of that Uchiha Stone tablet. So the Uchihas were always chaotic from the start (as we saw in the case of Indra and Madara too).

But a question is coined, why did he left Sasuke? Partly because he loved him, but more dominantly, he knew about Sasuke's potential. He knew Sasuke has something special (which we see now as current Sasuke is too OP), so he spared him.

That "Masked Man" (Obito) told Itachi that he is Madara.

But Itachi quickly figured out that it's not true because he was too intelligent to be made fool. So Itachi planned on making Sasuke a better shinobi for him to protect the future conflicts. (Just like Minato did with Naruto)

So as you can see, you can't deny Itachi's intelligence. To go even as far as anyone could have not imagined, he did it so well planned even Madara's planning is a shame in front of his. (No bashing intended, just a reference)

So I guess it's true to say that Itachi is the ultimate shinobi, a hero who protected the future generations from deadly wars, whose ultimate causes were Uchihas and Senjus.

Thanks.

Genuine rational comments appreciated. :)

Errrm, I take it you don't really the manga? Itachi did not see through the Tablet, he became how he was because he seen war and many death at a young age and at that time Itachi became a pacifist who thought about the future of the village instead of only the Uchiha clan. This is the will of fire which was made from Hashirama's will which is really Ashura's will.

Itachi turned Sasuke down a dark path which made him an international criminal. It was Hashirama who made Sasuke less obesses with hatred and revenge but Itachi did more harm than good with Sasuke. Sasuke would have been much happier if Itachi didn't make him take the dark path, he thought Sasuke would just go back to Konoha and be a hero which Sasuke did not do but instead joined Akatsuki. Itachi himself said he failed at this and he wasn't thinking of doing anything to help the future, only to give Sasuke power to prevent Tobi from getting to him.

What Itachi and Minato did weren't the same so to speak, what they did to their loved one did have similar effects like making Sasuke and Naruto feel lonely, sad, and angry but both surrounded their plan around didn't purposes. Minato wanted to maintain the balance of power between the villages by leaving a Jinchuuriki, wanted to give Naruto the power he would need to beat the mask man since he believed the mask man was the bringer of chaos, and he wanted Naruto to be able to speak to his mother again when he would need her.

P.S. Itachi didn't see everything on the Tablet and the story that actually matters (the lie) is when you read it with EMS and the Rinnegan. The MS only show you how to get the EMS as Itachi told Sasuke this.

intelligence =/= wisdom. As smart as he was, his decisions and the logic behind them left a lot to be desired. Itachi had relatively good intentions while only making things worse for the ppl he intended to help. And it didn't necessarily stop while he was alive either.

The only thing Itachi accomplished was preventing an Uchiha-Konoha civil war, and putting Sasuke on a path towards sanity (after he drove him insane, of course).

As unjustifiable as it is, the all-out war between Uchihas and Konoha would have much more severe consequences. He chose "lesser evil". That would be rationalizing on the plot of the story level. As far as real life morals and etiquette goes, nothing is justifiable in Shinobi world.

That's not exactly true. Itachi is the reason Sasuke regained his sanity. Hashirama himself admitted that Itachi endured far more and was a better shinobi than himself. Sasuke understood Itachi's feelings and behavior through Hashirama's story.

Sasuke still wanted to destroy Konoha even after Itachi, he wasn't sure why Itachi still wanted to protect Konoha after what happened to him so he wanted to know what the village is and what it means to be a ninja. He even said depending on Hashirama's answer he would either destroy Konoha or help protect it. Itachi did play a part in helping Sasuke to be able to turn sane since without Itachi Sasuke wouldn't want to talk to Hashirama so Itachi did help but it was ultimately Hashirama.

Uhm, not sure what argument here is because you wrote with what I agree for the most part. Sasuke specifically wanted to hear Hashirama who invented the Will of Fire before deciding because wasn't sure why Itachi sacrificed so much for the village. Itachi never explained because he was always so vague but Hashirama made him realize through the story. Ultimately, Itachi's actions, once understood, are responsible for Sasuke regaining his sanity. Hashirama was just the bridge between the insanity and sanity.
