He also probaly tried to go invisible against Madara, but look where that got him, he became Madaras little puppet
Amaterasu is avoidable. Even by running. Genjutsu would be easy to get out of, he can split his body in half, so he could get himself out. And susano isn't going to protect well against dust.

What makes mu annoying is that not only does he use this technique to hide himself from those with normal eyes, due to his sensoring prowess and ability to suppress his chakra to a minimum it further improves the camouflage technique therefore whether a doujutsu user can see still see him, is something we dont know.
Dust release damaging a full susano is very possible. Destroying it, i dont think so. One with the yata mirror, off course not. Anyway as weve seen ems madara beat prime Oonoki. We have seen that ems madara has susano and prime Onoki with dust release came out the loser.
What is annoying with mu is not his ability to fly, but his invisibility where he could nearly suppress all his chakra. Whether the sharigan can see him, who knows. Anyway when uses this technique whilst on the ground he leaves footprints therefore his technique isnt very useful on the ground;

What i will say is that dust release is not only slow to materialise, it also leaves mu vulnerable because he has to stay stationary to attack but also visible. If he does attack, visible and in the process of forming dust release, amaterasu would get him before he forms dust release. If he does split to evade amaterasu, thats the match over;

Where does it say they can't move while preparing? Depending how how fast he is, if he's flying he can fly out of the way of Amaterasu. I'm only saying this because they fly and the speed of running, or a little faster. When Sasuke was fighting Itachi, Itachi couldn't hit sasuke while he was simply running in circles.

Susano is fairly massive. The user of dust release must be taken a fairly risky move to use such a big one to cover all of susano. But size matters. The bigger the jinton the greater the time it takes to form.

Nobody has seen anybody use the body flicker whilst in susano in either of its version, but the body flicker alone can evade jinton, therefore the user doesnt need susano until, they truly feel the need to

muu has no chakra. reread the manga. and the yata mirror can only block from the front. if muus invisible and flies behind itachis sussano, im pretty sure its gonna go through sussano killing itachi

Im not getting into this pointless debate about what itachi could and didnt do in a fight that was already planned.
Anyway mu can do more things than dust release but he hasnt shown us any other offensive capabilities than that therefore we cannot assume. Besides its dust release that poses the most trouble. Unless he has another technique (which has never been mentioned) that is on the same level as dust release in terms of opness, once he splits the opponent gains the advantage.
itachi doesnt have a chance. muu has twin swords so i assume hes proficient in that. no dust release needed. just sneak up and stab itachi in the back.
