Itachi vs 3 Uchiha Police

Okay so I was watching naruto episode 129 the episode where sasuke watches on as itachi is confronted about Shisui's death... So after the 3 police guys piss itachi off he takes the three of them down in no time... So my question is why when the get back up do they ask permission of fugaku to attack itachi? Don't they realize they wouldn't win or are they just over confident ?

More than anything, i think they were just caught off guard when he hit them. Itachi himself commented on how they underestimated his 'ability to snap' (

Regardeless of who was apparently superior they had a job to do and they were likely counting on Fugaku's help to carry their duties. They couldn't just let Itachi hang around.
Besides, in case of retaliation Itachi would also have to deal with the rest of the Uchiha clan and Konoha, not just three average Uchiha.

i don't fault them too much for their confidence. They had no way of knowing beforehand that Itachi was another lvl. Seeing as though Fugaku had asked them to let him watch Itachi, it didn't look like they need his permission to atk Itachi. In all fairness though, he was intentionally trying to piss them off with the way he way he was talking down to them.
