Itachi telling Sasuke to kill Naruto

Itachi gained his mangekyou by killing Shisu so he probably thought that is the only way to gain the mangekyou. Itachi repeatedly told Sasuke to gain the mangekyou by killing his best friend. Itachi must have known that Naruto was his best freind, so my question is how did Itachi know Sasuke wouldn't kill Naruto. He told Sasuke to kill him for so long but after his ressurection he has entrusted Naruto to turn Sasuke back to the leaf. Itachi's attitude towards Naruto just seems very hypocritical to me. Also, The secret to unlocking the mangekyou may be revealed with Kakashi and Tobi's identity. Any Thoughts?

I doubt it was specifically Naruto. They probably didn't even know each other at the time. Itachi just wanted Sasuke to awaken the MS and possibly take his own eyes to awaken the EMS (hence why he told Sasuke about it during their fight). Basically giving him power.. protecting him.

At that time if Itachi knew it was Naruto and Told Sasuke to kill him then the Akatsuki would've never gotten the nine tails, and at that time that was Itachi's priority to capture Naruto ALIVE. Until part Two Itachi showed no interest what so ever in Naruto as Sasuke's friend.

Itachi didn't kill Shisui you dumbass. He watched Shisui drown himself to protect his abilities from going into the wrong hands. Read Danzo. Therefore he awakened MS by witnessing his best friend's death.

And how come Itachi HAD to know that Sasuke and Naruto were best friends? Got any proof for that knowledge?

When Naruto met up with an Itachi's clone before the Sasuke fight Itachi seemed happy that Naruto cared about Sasuke so much. After this, Itachi still berated Sasuke for not gaining the Mangekyou. This was a part of his act as an evil brother so that Sasuke could kill him to take his power. But my question remains how did Itachi know Sasuke wouldnt kill Naruto?
