Itachi telling Sasuke to gain the mangekyou

Itachi always told Sasuke to gain the mangekyou by killing those closest to him, this was a part of his disguise as his evil brother. After all Sasuke had a chance to do so at the valley of the end. Even after Itachi said to naruto that he entrusted him to save Sasuke, Itachi still berated Sasuke during their final fight for not having the mangekyou. My question is how did Itachi know that Sasuke wouldn't kill naruto and gain the mangekyou that way? Was it a huge risk on Itachi's part?

He knew that Sasuke wouldn't get that kind of power the same way Itachi said he did. He despised his older brother didn't want to be like him.

He didnt plus he kept tabs on him n noticed him going to orochimaru and in there final fight he sealed orochimaru

He did not know which is why he placed a couple of fail safes in case.

But if sasuke did kill naruto he would of become just like the thing he swore to destroy making his quest quite redundant at that stage as he would be no better then him.

But he fell into darkness later down the line anyway lol

Itachi knew that Sasuke didn't want to gain power the same way as him. In fact he was counting on it. Sasuke didn't want to be like Itachi at all
