this.

OP, your points as to what makes a character interesting are valid (i can personally attest to this as I'm about to release my ver own novel focused around high action martial arts) but you must remember that not every character can be a Naruto or Sasuke type.

However, therein lies the issue and presents the question- should people like itachi have a novel based on them in the first place?

now i haven't read any of the novels, but its fairly easy to understand why someone like naruto or sasuke would have a much more interesting story than someone like itachi

that being said, I'm not sure if it was just executed poorly, but i can foresee a engaging novel about itachi existing. Whether the one that exists is or not, is left to me actually reading it

Itachi's story is better than Naruto's it addresses the darkside of the force (konoha).

Itachi is the most boring character of all time. You're right about nerds liking him because they want to be him. They live vicariously through his adventures, praying that they too can become an emotionless killing machine. Great read OP, repped.

Haven't read the novel, but I agree that Itachi-centric stories are toast. He was effective as a supporting pseudo-villain, but not that compelling when brought into the limelight standalone. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing more of his interactions with Obito, that could be neat.

Lol LaGrim I thought you left

OT: bullshit opinion

I like emotionless killing machine characters. But Itachi never really appealed to me because of the hype (the whole Hokage mindset at 7 thing, as if it's something good). Like, I acknowledge his strength, but I prefer characters who are just more average.

I'm the same I prefer average characters and like to see ninja battles. But it doesn't change the fact that Itachi solo's

Show respect when discussing He who solos. While most people deam Itachi fans as "trolls" there are a lot of aspects about his character as well as manga, databook and portrayal feats that you can really appreciate from kishi to us about him. For example look at below:

What could you expect from a character who the mangaka sought to give hokage level intelligence at the age of 7?

I thought the people he encountered at a young age was interesting. He was just an OP kid trying to find understanding in life. Which I personally liked.

Can't help but respect a guy who was insanely talented as a child yet still maintained humility all his life. Most characters developed the cliche God complex

Oh, he does solo. And there were times where I could relate to him, too (the whole "those who don't acknowledge their true selves always fail" part). But that's not what makes me like characters. Usually it's something a lot more random. And I tend to like more blank slate characters (cause I like writing fanfics about them).

I kinda have a hate/love thing going with Itachi tbh due to learning what really happened during the massacre.

Itachi didn't have humility til being revived. He was incredibly arrogant, judging, and uncaring.

So, would you consider this novel to be bad filler then? :Sparks:

Nah. Just ain't very good. Like the late War arc.

Not minding the distinction between canon and filler doesn't mean it's outside of criticism.

What was wrong with Sakura Hiden? She was a strong black woman who didn't need a man to save her.

Yeah, that book was actually fine. Wish there had been fewer Sasuke fantasy chapters though. Other than that, it may be my favourite.

Nah, they're pretty good. This one is just a weak link because the entire book values hype over plot. New characters slot into the existing series pretty well and everything.
