Itachi was a very intelligent shinobi, possibly proven to possess the most quick and cunning mind in the NV. He was the only one to notice Tobito's presence in Konoha and apparently sought him out to help with the clan massacre.
Did Itachi know Tobi's real identity as Obito?
He programmed the Amaterasu into Sasuke to release when he saw Obito's face, not Tobi's mask, so it is likely he knew his identity.
Also, as we know that "Masked Man" wasn't Madara and was indeed Tobi, what did he gain from the Uchiha Clan Massacre?
I personally think that the only reasons Obito went along with this idea were to:
1. Gain a lot of spare three tomoe sharingan (an effort stopped by Danzo)
2. Gain Shisui's sharingan for KA or possible EMS if they were brothers (He tried to retrieve it from Danzo but failed)
3. To cripple Konoha in terms of military might
4. To leave one Uchiha shonobi alive (Sasuke) so that he will progressively grow stronger through hatred and unlock the EMS (possibly with Tsukoyomi)
But with the knowledge that Tobi is Obito and possibly has a different agenda to Madara, I cant really see any other reasons why he would do this.
