Reading the recent chapter, we all got a glimspe of itachi's perspective and what it was like to kill the Uchiha clan. Asuming Danzo wasn't using Kotoamatsukami, he left the final choice of the massacre up to Itachi. We all saw Hiruzen trying to put forward the idea of peace talks and As Hokage he had the final say.
2 possible scenarios would have occured:
Peace negotiations succeeded and the clan would have continued to live on. Peace inside konoha and sasuke will not be called sasugey.
Best outcome
Peace negotiations failed and the clan was murdered, having their name discraced and konoha would have been invaded.
worst outcome
There was a chance the 1st scenario would have occured. Hiruzen wouldn't have bothered with peace talks if there wasn't a chance. Itachi regardless, accepted Danzo's offer with his reasons being protecting his brother and the leaf. THe clans name was still disgraced and If Danzo didn't ensure the safety of his brother would ITachi still have gone through with it? Lets assume yes for now...
This means:
Fans hailed Itachi a hero, which he seemed like as he sacrificed the entire clan for the life of his brother and the village. But things did not go to plan and sasuke once finding the truth decideded to krush Konoha. Itachi failed but was still considered good for trying to save to village.
But wait, this recent chapter shows us something:
Itachi doesn't care if Sasuke crushes the leaf, he will love him anyway. That means in comparison his love for his brother is much more important to him than the village's safety. When he killed his entire clan and jumped the gun, he wasn't protecting the village, that was just a result, he really only cared for his brother...
In retrospect
He killed his entire clan even though it was not the last resort, JUST FOR HIS FRICKEN BROTHER, WHO WANTS TO CRUSH KONOHA ANYWAY.
And for this whole time fans have been saying he's a hero even though he demonstrated in this chapter, konoha is droplet in the ocean compared to his brother. He basically said do what you want, I LOVE YOU, even if you krush konoha.
DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE THE GIANT IRONY HERE?
You might argue that he believed in Naruto to stop Sasuke form destroying the leaf. Well... was he really trying to protect the village or his brother from becoming a further criminal by assigning Naruto the task?
SUMMARY:
This proves in the end Itachi placed sasuke before anything else. I don't blame him for it, if that's his thing go nuts, I'm all for his brotherly love and bondage. But what This chapter shows us, is how little everything even konoha's safety matters compared to his brother, meaning people that build him up to be this great hero are WRONG! he just loves his brother and in comparison nothing else matters, people that play him for a hero are deluding themselves.
Now Minato, that is a hero that sacrifices his life, his wife's life and basically seals a demon fox (as it was known before nine-tails became cool) in his son to save the village.
Itachi fans that's my 2 cents. I'm not laughing at you for making him out to be a hero, I believed he was one as well, but my opinion changed completely in this chapter. Itachi is an amazing SHinobi who did care for peace somewhat, He's definetly not a villian and endured all the hate. But he is not a hero and puts his brother before an entire villiage or clan!
