Itachi knew of his consequences of the Uchiha genocide.

Its not a surprise...

Despite having took on his mission thinking it was the only possible way of dealing with the problem... he still considered his actions to be wrong and thus wanted to be punished by having Sasuke kill him.

I feel as though in his situation it was his best course of action. I wouldn't do it myself, but then again I'm not a ninja. Idk, SOMEONE had to get their hands dirty.

He didn't admit that it was not the right thing to do. He simply said that anyone who lays a hand on a comrade does not die a fortunate death. Itachi still valued the ideals of his village opposed to his clan.

Well, it's more like he felt that maybe trusting Sasuke in attempting to convince the clan could have worked.

I mean, its only normal that he says such thing as what he wanted to do above all (protect Sasuke from the truth), didnt work as intended. The natural reaction is to think that the descision you've prevously took was the wrong one... but was it really?

Hiruzen made it seem like they forced Itachi to kill the Uchiha and we need to not forget that Tobi was right there in Konoha's shadows... Itachi doing this also prevented Tobito to attempt to do something against the leaf.

But yeah either way, Itachi believed back then that it was the only way to do deal with it, but also believed that he had to pay more than he actually did to make up for what hes done.

If you want my opinion, i still think that wasnt any other option as i doubt the clan would have listened to 8 years old Sasuke when they went to such extreme mesures....

Itachi is just being modest and selfless... thats who he is.

Personally I feel the same way. However, if he had told the elders about Madara all of this could've been prevented .. but still he was a child X_X.

And he did say that if he had told Sasuke maybe things would've been different. He was showing regret towards the decisions he made in the past.

Even telling the elders... would that have changed everything? Obito can phase through walls, he is the best to get himself out of harzarduous situations... and could have posed a threat at any moment and anywhere for that matter, while Itachi made sure that the threat would be kept at bay for a long time.

And yes he did say he had regrets, but thats only because he wasnt to protect Sasuke to the extent he had planned to. Maybe things could have been different, but its natural reaction to assume such thing when things dont go exactly as you wanted them to.

if he was truly wise like a hokage he would have found a third option.

he should kill the 4 old people. 4 is better than 200 uchihas
while Itachi made sure that the threat would be kept at bay for a long time.
and didnt use that time to do anything but sit on his hands and help akatsuki get stronger.

Itachi doing this also prevented Tobito to attempt to do something against the leaf.
no he only ensured he would. tobito turned his attentions to kiri because of the deal and turned that place into a hellhole. but did itachi care? no. itachis deal was "dont atack the leaf". he couldnt care less about anyone else

Sometimes things that are not moral are the things that just have to be done.
Sucks for Itachi.

if he was truly wise like a hokage he would have found a third option.

There was no third option. If there was, the Sandaime Hokage, who had been Hokage for decades and is literally beaming with wisdom, would have figured it out.

well....that's true...he knew what he was doing, he knew he was wrong and he knew that he had no other option left. He acknowledged his mistakes and accepted it.....he knew he would have to pay the price when sasuke would fight him, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to make up for it even when sasuke killed him because after all he never could actually let his brother know the real truth. He died with regret, but thanks to kabuto's edo tensei he came back and could explain to sasuke the real truth and till his last breath he protected his village, stayed by his nindo and it was then that he died peacefully, with a smile on his face.
