Now we all know that Kakashi means scarecrow.
We also know that Itachi is associated with crows, which he is able to summon at any moment.
So it is natural to assume that Kishi intended the two to have some kind of contrasting relationship. So what is the contrast, you ask? According to wikipedia, a scarecrow is "[a mannequin] usually dressed in old clothes and placed in open fields to discourage birds such as crows or sparrows from disturbing and feeding on recently cast seed and growing crops."
At the beginning of the series, you could say that Sasuke was the only seed left of the Uchiha, and Kakashi was meant to protect this seed from Itachi.
"Itachi" on the other hand means weasel.
As we all know, weasels are in the Mustelidae family, in the Caniformia suborder, which is composed of animals with canid-like traits. Kakashi had canine summons, but that's neither here nor there. Well, it's here but certainly not there.
Furthermore, weasels are known for their weasel-like behavior, usually delving into thievery and baboon provocations. Itachi's similarity to weasels seems to be mostly limited to their lengths (6.8 to 8.5 in), so let's just pretend his name means "crow"
"Yay!"
This revelation implies that Itachi is a crow, a cunning animal that science is only beginning to understand, so let's not get too much into it besides pointing out that crows and ravens are more or less the same. And where do we know ravens from? That's right: Edgar Allen Poe.
Thanks for reading, guys. Hope I helped clear up some misconceptions.
