Itachi is the reason good guys are winning the war

1.itachi sealed nagato - with nagato in his side kabuto could have controlled the battlefield and may even have captured naruto & killer b . nagato was too strong to fight head on.

2.made naruto realize - made naruto to realize that he should not forget his friends and made naruto realize that the person who is acknowledge by others can be hokage.

3.stopped edo tensai - who else would have defeated dsm kabuto without killing him and making him undo the
edo tensai. itachi was the only person capable to make dsm kabuto release edo tensai with his genjutsu.

4.changed sasuke -this has to be the most important. after meeting with itachi, sasuke was not about revenge instead he wanted to know the truth and later on sasuke joined naruto in the war. but if sasuke had not meet itachi he would not have joined naruto in war and without sasuke & the edo hokages the good guys would have lost the war. itachi changed sasuke which lead him to join sides with naruto in the war.

But to throw this out there:
Maddy's release doesn't matter much. Mainly because he was wrecking prior to it anyway, and the Edo Tensei release was perfectly timed, because it was what stopped Madara from killing Tsunade right off the bat. And, Tsunade got to have her chakra replenished by Dan, so even though they still got wrecked, she could heal them. If the Edo Tenseis hadn't been released, they would have died definitely the first time Maddy pulled out his PS.

All the super dangerous edos were sealed already-madara so releasing edo tensei was near pointless.
Naruto already knew that and even after that he still tried to take on the whole load
