I have seen many people put down Itachi, or say he is overrated, but that is not the case. He is in fact underrated and one of the strongest characters in this manga. Itachi is the type of guy, that if you don't have nay Intel on him , then you will soon meet your end. Knowing that this guy can see through Genjutsu instantly,
And counter accordingly;
It's good to say that this guy is a beast with just his basic Sharingan. He didn't even need to use Amateraus on Kakashi to beat him. Simple taijutsu, faster attacks were enough. He doesn't even need to use hand seals to weald ninjutsu.
His quick succession with clones are incredible. Tsukuyomi can only be broken by an Uchiha, so if you are not an Uchiha then you cannot brake Tsukuyomi.
Kakashi was helpless because he wasn't an Uchiha. If you get caught and you are not an Uchiah then it is hopeless. From this, we can gather that Tsukuyomi by itself is a very dangerous jutsu. The only way to avoid this jutsu is to close your eyes or look at your opponents feet, but it is even harder to fight your opponent by just looking at their feet, so you are already at a handicap if you are not an Uchiha. You cannot deny these manga facts.
Itachi doesn't even need Susano'O to be deadly. He is already fast, swift, and flexible, not to mention that he is very smart in situations. He was the one who broke the Edo Tensei, which saved the ninja world. Even Kabuto commented on his secret power and that he was the best Edo Tensei that he summoned.
Itachi is not just some random fodder without his main power being Susano'O. He is still plenty strong without it. Tsukuyomi mindphucked Kakashi negative diff. Amaterasu broke free of Jiraiya's toad beast.
In the databooks, Itachi has almost all 5's in all categories. It is almost breath taking:

Taijutsu: 4.5
Genjutsu: 5
Knowledge: 5
Power: 3.5
Speed: 5
Stamina: 2.5
Seal: 5
Hashirama even praised Itachi on how he was a magnificent shinobi and even better than him. This should tell you something.
Anyone who is not a Jinchuriki, pure blooded Uchiha, or have SM can be easily defeated by Itachi simply by using strong visual Genjutsu. Itachi is always a step ahead of his opponents and in Genjutsu there is no escape. There has to be a reason as to why this guy was feared. I'll tell you why. It's because he is just that good. He is probably the best Genjutsu user in this manga. Simple strength and raw power aren't the only factors to being a great ninja. Itachi's intelligence is way beyond anyone can imagine. He is a great strategist.
Overall, Itachi is not overrated. He just has a lot of haters that refuse to look at feats and the fact that he can beat most characters In this manga.
