I thank you for your analysis, but I strongly disagree with the bolded part.

Hiruzen was nicknamed "The Professor" because he was SUCH a genius. That nickname alone gaurentees that he was above average intelligence.

Also the fact that he was able to learn and master EVERY jutsu in the leaf, is nothing short of genius. You have to have a very keen and analytical eye in order to learn the quantity of jutsu he learned.

The manga suggest that he was able to learn the death reaper seal after only seeing it used once.

Ehh, again. I'm not exactly sure how he did it. He had a tremendous ability to absorb information in. But I see him sort of being more studious and meticulous when it came to learning and certainly mastering every jutsu. I see him more like Lee. . A genius more of hard work and all instead of natural talent or superb intellect.

The bolded, I had forgotten about. You're right. I was wrong to put him at average intelligence. But I still don't think he's outstandingly smarter than the average shinobi.

I understand where you are coming from. And I respect your opinion on Hiruzen, most of all his intellect was more hype than actual feats. Hopefully this war will help describe his character more.

Thanks! And yeah, I'm hoping to see him in action a bit more. Obviously using more jutsu and what not. His reaction to everything going on, or to Naruto might be pretty funny too.

Orochimaru should lead this list, as he's the only person who has displayed actual feats to match Hizuren's statement. Minato maybe hailed as a genius, and yes, his invention of Rasangan is a decent feat, but compared to Orochimaru who transcended mortality; it pales in comparison. Not to mention he perfected Edo Tensai and his tinkering in the medical field that created Yamato.

Minato deduction skills are not all that, to be very humbly honest. Sakura and Danzo's guards also broke down Obito's S/T technique quite easily and in a matter of seconds. Danzo's guards even managed to poison his entire arm. The only thing going for him is the 'hype' created by Jiraiya - not the brightest Christmas bulb amongst the Sanins - and that's all.

Sasuke and Kakashi should be up there as well as both were complimented for being a Genius or accomplished Ninjas by Orochimaru. Orochmaru even went as far to venture that his genius plaes in comparison to Sasuke. Hyperbolic, perhaps but it still sets a tone for Sasuke and he has displayed plenty of feats to back this up. Shikamaru considered Sasuke as someone he looked up to as an inspirational figure. His intelligence should not be slighted.

Tough one, Hiruzen has an advantage in terms of his age and his vast knowledge of Ninjutsu and experience of Combat and so on.

I can't really decide where to place these people.

T
Roof Shuriken Jutsu
&
Crystal ball jutsu

These are 2 that we know of.

Didn't he also create Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique?.

between Itachi and Orochimaru..i say Itachi :)

Really? I'd give this to Oro. But I do respect your opinion. Itachi is a genius in his own.

Hahaha "Jiraiya not the brightest christmas bulb amongst the sannin".

I didnt add sasuke becuase it would have seems sort of redundant becuase itachi was already on the list. And i overlooked kakashi. It was my mistake.

Yeah I agree that hiruzen's knowledge in my opinion is greater than almost everyone. His vast knowledge and understanding of jutsu, Shinobi skills, and the politics of the world makes him the genius that his NickName credits him of being. I ONLY believed orochimaru to be more intelligent because of his age and research that he has done. And his achievement of becoming a true immortal.

I Agree with you as well though. And yeah he did also invent shuriken shadow clone tech.

Shikaku Nara, no doubt about it

He is the Man!! A genius without peer in terms of strategy.

Itachi Uchiha - I believe he is smart in all aspects. He is a true genius both on the spot in critical situations and also in long term situations. He is also a good tactical thinker.

Hiruzen Sarutobi - He in my opinion is an on the spot thinker, but in battles only and a good tactical. His fatal flaw is love sadly and this clouded his judgement with orochimaru. He is a revolutionist however and governed the leaf well both as a vice to minato as he fought the nine tail and as a leader himself before and after minato's reign.

Minato Namikaze - Minato is the best of all these men in on the spot thinking. He was very tactical and a truly genius shinobi. He protected the village, his wife to an extent and his child from an unexpected catastrophe that would possibly couldn't have been better handled. I don't think many else could have equaled his effort on that night. He also has an eye for danger and thinks well in general.

Shikaku Nara - Shikaku did an exceptional job leading the shinobi allied forces up until his death but in my opinion we didn't get enough of him to deem the true length and breath of his mental capacity, sadly.

Lord Orochimaru - Orochimaru is smart as hell. He even expected sasuke to rebel and prepared but sadly sasuke escaped his transferal jutsu. He has perfected the art of completely twisting peoples mind and he knows human nature. He has studied humanity to an extent that he could predict human thoughts and exploit those that trusted him and exploit those that didn't. He was also expert at geography and obviously knew shinobi history well.

Personally, from what i see, It's a tight competition between Minato, Orochimaru and Itachi, where Itachi gains the edge.
