Does it matter? He can just use his finger on you anyway and simulate reality. While simulated, you won't even notice you're in genjutsu until it's too late. Because of this, Itachi is extremely OP and can kill even some of the most destructive opponents. The deadliness of genjutsu simulation can be seen with Itachi V Deidara, where deidara was in such a perfect simulation that he never even had a clue he ever entered a genjutsu or when it was even cast on him. If itachi didn't make him aware, itachi could have killed him 50 times over before he even noticed a thing.

That's the worst thing about itachi's genjutsus. They simulate reality so that you don't know when you're in a genjutsu unless you have special means (deidara's eye, dojutsu, etc), and they can be effortlessly placed on you mid battle without any prior warnings.
