I am NOT reading all of that :(. But if I can get the gist of from your posts, then Itachi was no very different from any other ninja. Except in konoha, tons of them are killers from a young age. Just look at Sai and Zabuza.

One could say that his lack of common sense could be seen in...Oh I don't know...psychologically torturing his brother (twice) into becoming stronger. Sasuke could've gotten strong anyway, without getting tsukuyomi'd, threatened and so on.

First of all, I'm not pretending to F*ck Itachi's rep around or stuff. I just want to post my thoughts bout his decisions in the angle of his mental state.
Sorry if any of my points have been stated before, I just didn't feel like reading every thread with Itachi in it.
Now, I've seen some ppl complaining bout Itachi's decision of torture Sasuke when he was an 8-year-old. I think Itachi did it for these reasons:

1. To give Sasuke a reason to live. Even if Sasuke ignored who the culprit was, his life would have been just s"·t. Itachi couldn't kill him cause he loved him, but it was uncertain if Sasuke could ever overcame the massacre (and we know he couldn't). Being a naive 8-year-old maybe he could never have will to stand up again. So Itachi made him hate him to encourage Sasuke and made him strong (as we know) and also as punishment for him-self (despite the fact he killed Uchiha clan for >>good<< reasons, he still thought that murder was a crime and wanted to be punished for that. He only happened to desire to be useful for Sasuke even as a criminal. Besides, which could be a greatest punishment that knowing hatred by possibly the only person beloved more than your village?).
2. He had no common sense. He have to remember that according to Tobi, Itachi experienced war while he was very young. He lived hell before he could understand a thing. How we can expect common sense of him?

Obviously he was desperate to avoid war, and he would have done (and he did) anything to achieve it (though it didn't work at the end).

Then, when he casted Tsukoyomi in Sasuke he may thought that Sasuke could overcame, since maybe it was not as horrible as living in war times.
3.Itachi was ruthless. At the time, he considered him-self as the only one able to stop Uchiha's coup d ' état (since Shisui was already dead).

Despite how unethical a coup d' état may sound, why he decided to raise against them? He knew (I presume) how many higher-ups feared the Uchiha clan, and how they kept surveillance on them. That they had little perspectives. He may felt it him-self. So then why he didn't support his clan?

Why he beloved his village more that his family(except for Sasuke of course)?

First, they were his experiences from war.
But secondly, and a motive as strong as first, he didn't like his clan (I presume). Itachi felt sick of how his clan was indolent towards the possible consequences their coup d' état could have.

Even more: He may felt angry on how his father treated Sasuke: only measuring him for his strength, like a tool, instead seeing him as his son.

Hating your own father makes you ruthless.
Killling him makes ya even more ruthless.
We've even seen his last words to Sasuke (I've no regrets/ I have no more attachments to this world-idk which translation is more accurate, but it doesn't matter, they mean the same: "I will not stay in this world anymore, not even for you, little brother.)
He has his reasons for being ruthless anyway.
Thoughts?
As tobi said... Itachi wanted sasuke to finish him off and return to the leaf as a hero... only itachi's plans didn't go as planned as sasuke met him earlier that Itachi intended him to.

Those who think The Uchiha were innocent flowers:
But i think most people dont know what the effects of the uchiha coup wld have been:
1. Uchiha were a lot in number,(they had a whole district to themselves) and their fighting talents were unparalleled.
2. Uchiha wld need to kill many of the shinobi forces of konoha to make the coup a sucess. And itachi alone can take on opponents equaling his total clan members. So imagine the body count .....
3. Many innocent civilian might have died due to cross fire or their livelihood destroyed.
4. To stop other clans from rising against them, uchiha wld have to take the clan leaders or their children hostage or kill them.
5. After the coup there wld be ppl who disagrees, who wld be need to be killed or imprisoned.
6. Hizune wld have to be killed.
7. THIS IS MOST DEADLY: Due to civil unrest and the weakened millitary forces, konoha wld be open for attack by other countries, who are always just waiting for a chance for a attack. This would mean destruction of konoha and annexation of land of fire. Imagine how many people wld be killed.

U r not thinking properly if killing only leaders wld have solved all problems:
1. One sasuke can do this, imagine what other 45 sasukes wld do for revenge.
2. How is one going to tell apart who is guilty and who is not? Each uchiha has to be captured b4 they can be made to talk and all of them knows great genjutsu, so mind reading wld be not that effective.
3. Itachi at least knew who all were responsible and he specifically stated 'this clan has no future'; u know why? Cos i think the entire clan was into the plan.
4. Wont the remaining members plot revenge? or even run away to other countries and sell them the konoha secrets?
5. Also they hizune tried to take a bloodless path but it didnt work. (See: read background)
6. Only the council (elders and danzo) suspected the Uchiha as Madara Uchiha the LEADER of the Uchiha clan attacked Hashirama, the first Hokage and its not a very light crime that can be easily forgotten. So the uchiha wre merginalised and secretly monitored (Its not spyng if everyone knows it). But good hearted Hizune made up for that by forming the Uchiha Police Force (No other clan had such power) and giving them full control over konoha law and order and still offered more (See: and read background). But they refused the peace offers as they were after power and wld not stop before thay controlled the whole village.

What the council did was indeed extremely wrong and inhuman, but the Uchiha had their faults too. Itachi just chose the path that wld save more lives.

The reason why itachi chose konoha over the uchiha was because he deep down unlike the uchiha believed in peace. Just like the village. The village wanted peace an the uchiha didnt. So since he himself believed in peace he chose konoha over his clan.
