I would never consider someone that murdered helpless women and children in their sleep as a good person. Itachi undertook the act knowing full well what it entailed. Just because it was beneficial to the village doesn't mean it wasn't a disgusting act. Genocide is never the right thing to do.

What good ones? The Village? For the other Villages they're the bad guys. Itachi didn't do to protect the good ones he did cuz it was the orders and because he didn't want a Civil War to happen

Itachi couldn't kill the whole clan, that's why he required Obito's assitance.

OT: Itachi was always a good guy. He may have murdered his clan mates but he had no other options to avoid the Coup d'etat. #inb4itachihaters

Pretty much this.

ot: When people look at the shinobi world and compare it to the real world to that extent to say that he's a bad guy...it simply looks moronic on their part. ALL of the characters kill, they are trained to be assassins. They're shinobi. Kishimoto already defined Itachi as a good person, it's not up for debate.

-Not too sure it's the brightest idea for people to use the excuse "he killed innocent women and children" when the manga blatantly states that Sasuke was the only innocent one in all of this. There were no other innocent ones, they were all for the coup. It was never confirmed that there were other children in the manga other than Sasuke, in fact everything actually points away from that, bar the reader's own feeling that there should have been. However, this is also a series in which people can get split in half and be fine a few moments later, eyes are traded like Pokemon cards, etc. Not alot of logic in this. Itachi, Obito, and Hiruzen have made remarks about Sasuke being the one innocent person and Sasuke asked why he wasn't killed. Itachi replied that it was because he was just a kid and had nothing to do with the coup, therefore there was no reason for him to die. That just threw out the possibility of there being any kids Sasuke's age or younger, especially considering that after Itachi's statement Sasuke just accepted it, he didn't say "What about the other kids"...mainly because Kishi wants to portray that there were none. There were also no Uchiha children shown at the Academy, none walked home with Sasuke and Itachi, and none have ever been seen or mentioned in a single one of Sasuke's flashbacks. This isn't rocket science. Any kids would have had to have been 12 or older. But in the shinobi world, you are treated like an adult if you are that age...that's why it's not comparable to the real world and silly to even try that in this regard.
And women are just as capable as men are in inflicting damage as shinobi.

-Itachi didn't want his clan or the village to be hurt, he loved both. He only killed his clan after he knew that they would stand no chance in the coup and all be annihilated...long after negotiations were not working. There was no other choice at the time and both sides were too stubborn to come to a compromise. Also, even though Itachi had no real option, he still considers himself a horrible person for what he did-that tells us that he still has a conscience at the end of the day. He loved his clan, he just did what he had to do at the time and bared the burden of it.

He's a good guy. The Uchiha were going to be annihilated whether he raised a hand against them or not. He maintained peace through questionable means, but that was mainly just because he always got thrown into impossible situations. Most times, he had to make the hardest choices, with options not being favorable. He had to just choose which would cause less damage and did. That's pretty decent imo. U_U

so Itachi should have asked other villages about who to kill and who don't ??

this has nothing to do about other people judgment ,, only headquarters -if they said that killing the clan is better for the village , than it's over .

and if u ask Raikage he would say : kill all the village itachi , cuz they're all bad for us .

so shut ur mouth with these bullsh*ts. di*ck**hea*D

His actions were bad, but then again he only did him when there were no better options and there was no way of only doing good. He also always had good intentions. He qualifies as a good guy in this manga.

Dude. There is no "good" village or "bad" village. They all work for what they want and care about their own people. That's normal. A clan wanting to disregard all attempts of negotation so they can have complete control of a village that doesn't even trust them is a terrible idea, especially when they want to do it by force. They should have talked with Hiruzen and asked for more power, not decide overthrowing him was the best thing. Itachi completed that order because he wanted to protect innocent people---innocent people are good people in this, because they don't deserve to die & Itachi's clan was going to go kick the bucket no matter what went down.

Minato killed 1000s of shinobi in war to protect the people in his own village, he's considered a good guy.
Missing-nins are wanted and if you kill them, you are considered a good guy.

Killing for no reason is bad. But in this manga, if you kill for a good reason, it is usually overlooked and justifiable to them. Which is why we don't live in the Naruverse.

You can't possibly be a ninja without having to kill people.
It's only harder for him because it was HIS family/clan.
If it was a different clan, people wouldn't look at him as bad.

IItachi's good in my eyes :3

You can't really call Itachi a bad guy. It was explained that he had no options. He was born into a war and witnessed its violence. He then devoted his life to one of peace and attempted to maintain it anyway possible, joining the ANBU. He killed the clan because all his options resulted in murder.
Option A: Not do anything. Result: Danzo will find others to kill the Uchiha clan before Hiruzen even gets a chance to have negotiations, in order to prevent a coup
Option B: Kill the clan himself. Result: Yes he kills everyone in his clan, but at least he can save Sasuke by harboring his hatred, thereby protecting the Hidden Leaf as well
Option C: Side with the Uchiha and attack the Hidden Leaf. Result: First of all there was nearly no chance of this happening as Itachi hated how self-absorbed the clan were at sometimes. It is arguable, but I do think Itachi was strong enough alongside the rest of the Uchiha to give the Hidden Leaf a run for their money, but in the end it is more than likely they would still lose. Additionally, he would never want to wage a war because he understands the extreme violence that arises from it. Therefore, this option was not even on the table for Itachi.
In the end, the only choice he had was to kill his own clan. If he had not, someone else would have. This way, he at least saved Sasuke.
Plus, in that one episode they even explained Itachi's sadness and distress as he killed his own clan, especially his parents. Enough said, Itachi made the only choice he could, and it was a noble one if you look at it in the grand scheme of things... especially since he had to seem like a traitor and have his brother hate him, even though it was the most noble thing anyone had ever done for the Hidden Leaf. Well I am done ranting, my apologies haha.
