he got it from shisui and then put it in a crow, it also seems that when an uchiha's eye is taken it can remain in the same state afetr its taken fron the uchiha and to keep it from danzou itachi gave it to naruto.

Sarcasm aside he gave it to Naruto to be used on Sasuke not to keep it from Danzo. He held onto the eye ever since Shisui gave it to him until he gave it Naruto. Would love to see Danzo try to take it from him.
