Actually, it was hinted at multiple times that Minato did not have sage mode.

-No mention by Fukasaku or Shima
-Minato called it "Jiraiya's Sage Mode" when he would refer to his own technique in a way such as "His teleportation is better than mine or Lord Second's"
-Didn't use it to battle the man he thought was Madara Uchiha
-Didn't use it to battle the Kyuubi
-Didn't use it to save his wife
-Didn't use it to save his son
