What hashirama meant was that because itachi spend most of his life being hated by his brother, the one person he loved enough not to kill during the uchiha massicar, joining akatsuki as a somewhat spy, powering up his brother through hatred, having to bear the pain of eradicating his entire clan plus his girlfriends and family.

Hashirama on the other hand, yes he was raised in war and had to take some form of tough responsibility howeverknowledge ther that's keeping him together and in check, they are basically ying and yang two sides to one coin, they were there for eachother. Itachi had no one to rely on and carried that burden which is why. Said itachi was better. It has nothing to do with jutsu skill or power, hashi doesn't even know itachi or the jutsu he possesses so how can he be talking about power?

Anyway I just wanted to clear this up so any thoughts that were confused (mostly itachi fans) are finally cleared up
