Throughout his entire life Itachi has failed numerous times.
1. Itachi killed his entire clan to prevent the Ninja War but it still happened.
2. Itachi wanted to make Sasuke a hero but he failed because Sasuke turned into a criminal. He killed a future kage, hijacked a Kage Summit, and joined with akatsuki to capture B.
3. Stopped the Edo Tensei but Madara is still on Earth.
Itachi messed up his entire life i thought he was suppose to be on Kage level he even managed to mess up more than Minato XD.

He did prevent the civil Ninja War. If Itachi didn't annihilate the Uchiha clan.. they would've started a war within the village, thus leaving the Leaf weak and crippled. When that happened, other villages would've use this opportunity to attack the leaf, and probably destroying it. Itachi saved the Leaf in a sense.

Tbh everyone has failed at something it takes a wise man to understand his failures. That's what separates Itachi from most imho.

I seriously don't get the logic behind number 1... Itachi and Danzō did in fact prevent a war and saved Konoha from destruction. No one ever said there would be no more wars after that.
