forming a stable village uniting all clans was hashirama's dream, which eventually happened after madara joined hands with him. Due to certain turn of events we saw madara finally turning his back to hashirama and leaving the village only to come back and attack him countless times god knows why. But anyway, hashirama did mention that he would do anything to protect his village, even if it means he has to go against his own family or his friend. hashirama followed his own definition og shinobi....to endure every possible pain in order to reach his ultimate goal which is protecting the village. it seems itachi was the only uchiha who followed hashirama's path. Once a village is formed the people should consider the village as a greater priority than the clan. Unfortunately the uchihas were still more concerned about their clan rather than the village. There were a few exceptions though like kagami, itachi, shisui etc. I initially thought tobirama was some kind of a hater or racist so far as the uchihas are concerned but..well...i admit that he after all wanted the better of his village. Some of his actions were far from perfect..but that's just how he was....following his ninja way. And itachi followed hashirama's will, he did endure the pain of losing his clan and family because he wanted to achieve his ultimate goal...peace and harmony in the village he truly belonged. probably even hashirama wouldn't have been able to go against his family like him. it is kinda sad that still his role remained dark, the villagers don't know about his real contribution to the village. He wasn't a hero like the hokages or naruto...because heroes are acknowledged by everyone.....but he was the only person who actually followed hashirama's will in the real sense. so i personally think after this war itachi deserves some significant respect and acknowledgement.....like his statue being built in the centre of the village or something like that so that people of every following generation knows what he did.

Danzo deserves that as well.Everything he did was for the village's safety.Even the third acknowledged his devotion for the village.

He's already the God of his own religion and hailed as the Solo King.
I think that's more than enough respect.

No one will ever know the truth because that would degrade the Uchiha name but then again Sasuke doesnt want his brother to remain a bad guy in peoples eyes so like Itachi and Shisui Sasuke has to abandon the pride of Uchiha for his brothers name. Also Itachi didnt want anyone to know the truth about the clan so who knows.

Itachi does deserve respect, but even though he's considered a hero and a great shinobi, it's natural people will be conflicted regarding what he did to his clan (the village) and the mental torture he put Sasuke through (Team 7).

Itachi himself, however, would not want to be viewed that way, and to die viewed as a traitor and have Sasuke be the hero is all he truly wanted. The most that could be done in his name is not have all Uchiha viewed as evil. He himself proved that by being the only Uchiha to not end up consumed by his feelings.
