If it was Hashirama, Hiruzen, Minato, Naruto things would have gone differently, and at the very least the innocent Uchiha who had nothing to do with the coup be spared.

I'm struggling with myself atm. Your topic statement is true; Itachi has said himself that he made mistakes and screwed up, several times. But the way you argue it convinces me that you don't fully appreciate the situation Itachi was in, like others have said. :|

Wouldn't know what I'd do, but if the alternative is that a war is started then I don't think I'd go emo and want to kill my village. But then again, never been in a situation like that so who knows.

He agreed to Danzo's plan so that Sasuke would be spared. That's the only reason why he agreed. If Danzo had been planning to kill Sasuke too, I doubt Itachi would have gone through with the plan. Plus he wasn't completely heartless; he was crying when he had to kill his parents.
If he really wasn't a good brother, he would have killed Sasuke too. But instead he made sure that Sasuke was spared. To me, he did the best he could in his situation.

Well, Sakura tried to kill him first, so he just defended himself. And I don't think he has the same bond with her that he has with Naruto. He acknowledged Naruto as his best friend during the fight at the Valley of the End (if I remember correctly) but he never really identified his bond with Sakura, save for maybe being a teammate.
