The anime is cannon since its made from the manga. Kishimoto has a direct role in the anime as well. I'm not sure why people deny the facts and try to use denial as their logic. It's very clear that Itachi knew all along about Madara being just a puppet. I'm sure Itachi also knew about Sasuke eventually going blind to.
