Itachi = best brother ever

What would make itachi think its a good idea to kill his whole entire family except his little brother, and then just leave him to a life of pain and expect him to grow up normally? I mean, of course plot no jutsu is the reason why he is alive but, honestly, Itachi set Sasuke up for a path of destruction. Telling his bother that he would have to kill his best friend to get stronger, calling him worthless, that sounds like true brotherly love if you ask me.

Lol sarcasm much ? , and he's definitely NOT the best brother, he simply tried his best, failed on occasions, but also succeeded on many others. TBH in their world "Ninja world" Itachi is a Hero and a good brother, seeing how Ninjas live their lives U_U

Well, he had to kill his clan because it was an order from the Council. They were conspiring to take over Konoha and Itachi had to put a stop to it. The reason he did it was because he was promised that Sasuke would survive then. If he had refused the order, they would have killed his brother too and that he wanted to avoid.
He told Sasuke to kill his best friend, bait him to get stronger because he wanted Sasuke to defeat him and get strong enough. That was why he kept himself alive through intake of medication; he wanted to be alive for Sasuke to kill him.

Itachi should've killed Sasuke. Why he kept him alive when it was obvious there was only a life of pain ahead I do not know. Sasuke would've been at peace in the afterlife with his parents. It was actually abit selfish.

I was just saying why Itachi acted like that. I know that Itachi didn't make good decisions concerning Sasuke, but he wanted his brother to stay alive and get stronger. I don't say that his decisions were well thought out (he admitted his mistakes) but he wanted his brother to get stronger and he thought taunting him etc was the best option at that time

Kankuro is considered a good brother in the naruverse, and he hasnt done anything harmful to neither Gaara nor Temari

I agree he is a terrible brother, I don't know why people think he is such a saint, torturing a seven year old just isn't cool. Furthermore, he came back to Konoha and tortured him, and clearly didn't think it through, because unless he could see the future, there is no way he would have known Tsunade was coming back, Jiraiya wasn't sure of that himelf, and no one else could heal the mental trauma caused. He cared about Sasuke but he definitely did a very shabby job of being a brother.

Not exactly, he wanted Sasuke to be looked at like a hero because he defeated Itachi - that's what he wanted. Itachi stayed a Konoha shinobi for the rest of his life - he just wanted Sasuke to be regarded like a hero when he went back to Konoha after he killed Itachi.

Your title sure is opposite from what you wrote here. I agree that Itachi expected Sasuke to change his ways like nothing happened, but too much manipulation and pain affected his way of thinking. The problem with Itachi is that he never had an honest conversation with Sasuke. Remember in 576 when he saw Sasuke. He told Sasuke how much he heard of his recent change and he told him he would wish to see him go back to his old ways. Sasuke was mad at some point and told him that's why you have always repudiated me. Itachi fails to see that the reason Sasuke wanted to destroy the village was because of him. He should of said to Sasuke that he appreciates his younger brother caring enough to do something like that for the sake of him and the Uchiha Clan. But he should of said afterwards that he is grateful enough that Sasuke has grown up and has become stronger. Before disappearing he should of told Sasuke that he will be disappointed if Sasuke destroys the village, because he save the village for the survival of his brother at the end he should say that he wants his brother happy, not suffering the backlash of the past.
