Kakashi's doton is a lot thicker, and for the shurikens to actually harm him they must go trough the whole thick wall and still pack enough momentum to reach Kakashi at a considerable speed. And the momentum of those shurikens themselves is lame since they failed to go trough the tentacles and just pierced them and got stuck mid way.
