To save the world from another war, he took it upon him self to kill everyone in his clan, including the children. As much as that must have hurt his emotions, he did it for the world.

well itacho felt that thr villiage shouldn't be destroyed for something they had no part of. If my family was going to massacre a bunch of innocent people i would kill them..... Itachi was just in a bad position and frankly he made the right choice... And the whole baby thing is a theory... We have seen no children sasuke's age or lower during the massacre
