I am an Itachi fan and disagree with your first reason.
Naruto,Hashirama,Madara,Obito and Nagato are sure stronger than Itachi. Sasuke,Minato and some others are debatable.

Naruto is still stupid so his power alone can't help him against itachi.

I agree about madara or hashirama > itachi .

But

Itachi already defeated nagato (review manga) while obito was scared to death of attacking
Konoha while itachi is alive

Itachi would have lost if Sasuke wasn't there to assist him.
Obito helped him massacre the Uchiha Clan.

Minato didn't struggle at all. He found out his ability and a counter to it while the Kyuubi attacked Konoha. He could have continued and killed Obito but, the Kyuubi was a serious problem.
