Naruto is iconic for who he is/was during the original Naruto Part 1, Akatsuki Arc, and Pain Arc. I still believe he is not that bad, especially to see his growth since Part one to 700.

Naruto just needed to be more serious, his bouts of smarts not outshone by stupid comic relief, not as stupidly happy-go-lucky as he is for the most part, and not so easily forgiving.
