But he had no choice. He had pursued 6 different Sound Nin, in 6 completely different directions, all leading to dead ends. Time was running short. He needed Konoha's intel on Orochimaru.
2 years ago, the war had concluded. It was a time of joy for others, but for him... Just another mission. Another quest for revenge. Sasuke had attempted to take the title of Hokage, but Naruto got in the way, as usual. It was a fight of massive scale, one that mirrored that of Hashirama's and Madara's. A kunai. From behind. Child's play. Sasuke caught it with ease. No ninja would ever attack with a single kunai when they had the upper hand like that. It had to be a Leaf Ninja.
"Aye! Sasuke, what the hell are you doing here?"
The idiot. Sasuke kept facing forward.
"Naruto. I was just on my way to the Village. I need information."
"Sasuke, you know it doesn't work like that! You're a criminal, people want you dead! I convinced them to let you go, if th-"
"Shut up."
"Eh?!"
Sasuke dropped the kunai. The two had worked out their issues for the most part. In truth, Sasuke just... Tolerated Naruto. Naruto threw the word "friend" around. Sasuke was more reluctant to.
"Naruto. I need information on Orochimaru. The trail has gone... Cold."
Sasuke handed Naruto the Sound headbands.
"Six, huh?.. Sasuke... There's no need to kill them."
"They were murderers. All of them. I need that information, Naruto."
Naruto stopped. Not a good sign.
"There's been no new information on Orochimaru, Sasuke. You know we aren't pursuing Orochimaru anym-"
"Tch."
He didn't have time for this. Every minute he wasted was another minute towards Orochimaru unlocking his power.
"Eh! Sasuke! Stop!"
Just like the old days, he thought.
"Sasuke... You know he can't use them. Not yet. You're being rash."
Sasuke stopped. He turned around.
"They were mine. That's reason enough."
Sasuke glared at Naruto with an empty stare.
