That after being shown as the weakest in the Akatsuki in the entirety of the series, suddenly Zetsu and his Spiral brother became the of the most threatening enemies in the manga capable of even using abilities such as Sage Art: Wood Release: True Several Thousand Hands without even having to access senjutsu chakra, matching to the 1st Hokage.

That along with the fact that Black Zetsu himself is facing off against the 4th Hokage and Kakashi through his own means(controlling Obito).

It's just funny that after being shunned for the majority of the manga and anime, now suddenly Zetsu is one of the most biggest threats in the latest manga.

It's not just Zetsu, it's zetsu's powers that are interesting. His ability to absorb and channel chakra is probably what's going on here. Zetsu is connected to Madara (and Obito), and they can absorb chakra from them and the gedo (which now contains all the bijuu, correct?) to perform bigger attacks.
