They are Muslim, whether we say they are or not. Why? Because they genuinely believe they are.

Are they following the teachings of the quran and the prophet Muhammad? Of course not. They are Muslims but they are bad Muslims.

I think extremist is the wrong word to call these terrorists.

I think the difference is that vegetarian has a clear definition, while a religious belief varies.
