[Question] Is Zoro the 2nd in command of the SHs?

In my opinion, Zoro is the de facto 2nd-in-command. The crew might not recognize Zoro as the official first mate, but if something were to happen to Luffy, Zoro would be the one to fill the role as leader until Luffy returns.

To answer your question look at the rest of the crew and find someone among them who would be a better first mate than zoro you will not find someone zoro is the closest to luffy in strength as well as bounty hes been by his side the longest as well so that pretty much guarentees him the first mate spot sanji cant be the first mate hes not as strong as zoro and he hasnt been around as long usop or nami arent even close to zoros strength and they been around but not as long as zoro has

I think without a doubt he is first mate... There's no if ands or buts about that...

However in terms of making decisions I think all the straw hats make decisions for themselves they honestly don't listen to each other for advice hell luffy literally goes for the most dangerous places


Now if I was to say who luffy should be getting advice from (not first mate first mate should be able to lead and defend not nesscarily make decisions for others and that should be zoro)
I say he should ask robin for advice seeing as she has most expierence etc..

Bro .-. Zoro Sanji ussop nami they all joined around same time which is around days between each other..

As for strength not even going to go there but I will say this both zoro and sanji's feats post timeskip have been basically... Piss pour though zoro had awesome mountain slash feat and Sanji had impressive durability and speed feats when under water
Neither of those feats put them on the level of what their captain has been showing both need to step up their game

Most of the stawhat had at one point acted like the vc thus it's hard to judge. I can see why people say zoro though, what he djd in TP was more "flashy" and cool compared to what the others did


Hell luffy even gave usopp the ok to what seems to be the duty of VC same with sanji and even nami (even though one coild argue thay her job is what gives her authority but that seem to be an understatement of how much say she has)

It doesn't work that way in SHs, other than Luffy as Captain there isn't any command-structure. But quite a times, it's apparent and other times Zoro behaves like a 1st mate.

Zoro is also like Marco's Whitebeard, as they are both the second strongest of their crew behind their captain. During the incident with Usopp leaving the crew, it was shown very well that Zoro can be level headed during dramatic times, and tell his own captain to pull himself together and act like a captain and make harsh decisions if it ever needs to come to that. Zoro also took Luffy's Pain from Kuma, and this is proof that he cares for his captain very much. Zoro is also the second one to be aligned with Luffy's crew so he is also the oldest one to join.

The only one who comes close in regards to Luffy's underlings is Usopp but as you can see he lacks power and I believe that Zoro completes all the conditions while Usopp lacks a few. If anything, Usopp seems more like a bestfriend than a second commander.
