[Discussion] Is this a common trait for anybody else?

I've noticed that in the majority of anime/mangas that I read, I always find the side characters far more interesting than the main ones.

For example:
From Naruto, My favourite characters are: Kakashi, Gai, Lee, Shikamaru, Bee and Obito.
From Bleach, My favourites are: Byakuya, Shinji, Gin, Uryu and Komamura (though Ichigo's not too far behind).
And From One Piece, my favourites are: Zoro, Sanji, Coby, Brook and Garp/

The only anime/manga I can think of where I have liked the main character a lot is Death Note or Code Geass. Is this a common trait with anybody else?

I'm like that, too. I hate the goofy main character and stick up to the others.

nahh i tend to like the main characters more naruto is my 2nd favorite character in naruto well luffy is my favorite character in one piece

as for bleach im not the biggest fan of ichigo prefer hat and clogs(always forget his name)

The bolds are main characters, they are all part of the main cast.

Yep pretty much identical, Death Note and Code Geass are the only anime where I actually like the protagonist and favour them over everyone else, the whole goofy save the world dude has been done WAYYY to much lol

I think Goku, Luffy and Gon Freecs are decent tho just not my favs

I tend to like the main characters in the majority of the anime i watch with the exception of Light from Death Note(Yeah i know its weird dont hate me U_U)
Some of my all time favourite characters are mains, Gon from HxH,Ed from FMA and Hei from DTB.

Sometimes. I think it's because we see the main character all the time and we know everything about them so it gets kinda old. And it's too mainstream to have him as your fav. But One piece is an exception because my favourites are Ace, Zoro and Luffy.

I used to believe that this was the case but when I looked back at my list I realized how much I liked the main characters in a lot of my favorite series.
