@ Op, yes it sounds plausible. The moon people from Japanese folklore are rabbit like and Kaguya is called the rabbit goddess. Furthermore, Hagoromo negelcted to mention where she came from and it appears there may have been two moons during the Ootsusukis' era.

There's been moon people in several of the JRPGs I've played such as Final Fantasy IV and Dark Cloud.
