Is the title of "Legendary" Sannin overhyped?

Now before I get flamed, I'm not saying that they're weak by any stretch of the imagination. It's obvious that they are above most fodders but legendary is pushing it...I dunno it feels kinda overhyped...ironically like when people call their sensei Hiruzen the god of shinobi. Lol! I mean what did the Sannin do that was so legendary besides holding their own against Hanzo who they
A. Didn't defeat. He just let them escape with their lives
B. Hanzo who got baby shaked by Pein/Nagato (a real legend)
C. Edo Hanzo who got taken out by Mifune like a filler character

"Legendary" should be reserved for characters with near godlike feats like Madara, and Hashirama or the title just becomes "eh". Just saying...

No they aren't, this was before Tsunade had her seal, Jirayah probably couldn't use sage mode, and Orochimaru had no edos.
It was all them.
We never really seen the full extent of Tsunade's abilities,
We seen a little of what Orochimaru could do.
And Jirayah had lots of jutsu.

The full power of the sannin was never showm

Nagato used the Gedo Mazo, totally unfair.

Jiraiya didn't use SM, Orochimaru hasn't started any of his experiments, Tsunade probably didn't use anything like Byakugou either.
Hanzo had a giant summon which uses poisonous gas, one of the strongest in the series, sufficient to kill anyone with regeneration powers lower than Naruto without becoming friends with Kurama if you ask me.

Hanzo didn't use that gas against anyone else.

And not to mention, in that era, there was no ''The Yellow Flash'', ''Rinnegan Madara'', ''BM Naruto'', ''EMS Sasuke'' etc. etc. etc. etc.

No one in that era or before it were truly strong aside from Hanzo, the Sannin, possibly some Kages, Danzo, Hiruzen, Madara, Izuna, Tobirama and Hashirama.

Sure there might've been some more people, but they were still not as strong as the current strong characters.

They deserved that title.

You got me at "created his own dimension". The Sannin are pretty amazing. They just keep getting trolled by bad matchups like Sasuke.

In the time they recieved it they deserved it. They were the best then. This is not their generation, nagato and co are next generation.

They deserve their titles because they have managed to keep up with the current generation out of their prime.

I feel Jiraiya and Orochimaru are underhyped. They're complete bosses and are even crack a lot of people's top 15's.

Tsunade is hyped reasonably well, except for when she claims she can't die in battle.
