If you look at the scan you will see that Kakashi first cut zabuzas arm off so he couldnt counterattack with his sword and then pierce thru his chest. A rasengan can't do this.

chidori is kakashis signature move he invented why wouldnt he prefer it?

Chidori strength depends on the user. Part 1 sasuke did that with normal chidori while the last sasuke's chidori blew up a meteor which even a rasenshuriken couldn't do. Also I want to point out that Rasengan is more ment for destruction and chidori is more precise on 1 point. Chidori can actually kill people and pierce through them while rasengan does not. Even Kakashi said that that chidori of sasuke's could have killed naruto and he shouldn't have aimed at a comrade with a chidori like that. So I would say chidori is stronger since it can actually kill people while rasengan cannot.

1. Both of them without Rikudo's strength and power = Rasenshuriken > Chidori, that's all. Given power does not mean the other jutsu is stronger than the other. This is their base, and Naruto learned how to control his wind nature when he combined with his Rasengan by his own, while Sasuke also learned Chidori by the help of Kakashi.
Nothing calls stronger than the others, it is just the fanboys and haters.

It took Amaterasu + Chidori to counter a Base Rasengan.Although sasuke had the advantage of gravity too

Lmao. This is like me saying ''Is Chidori better than the Rasengan'' and showing how much deeper of a hole Chidori made, while the Rasengan barely dented it from the front. Both techniques have clashed 4 times, 2 out of which they were base Rasengan and base Chidori, and 3 out of 4 they tied, while one was even a win for Chidori.

Rasengan is better for overall damage, Chidori is better at focused piercing damage.

They're about equal for their intended use.

Rasengan is created for brute force, leaving enemies incapacitated & with internal injuries, so they can will be easier to capture or left to die while succumbing to injuries. Of course bigger Rasengans is a different story.

Chidori is created for precision; assassinations, it's meant to only be used with killing intent. A stream of lightning pierces through the foe leaving them paralyzed with a fatal injury. The death should be fast not slow paced like Rasengan's.

Both are excellent for what their purposes are, but it seems Rasengan is easier to add other natures when mastered and causes less chakra usage, while Chidori is easier to learn, has more draw backs. It seems both are fairly easy to manipulate when fully mastered.
