Is the existence of the tailed beasts common knowledge?

I was wondering if the existence of the 9 tailed beasts is common knowledge. I remember back when Naruto transformed into Kurama when he fought Shukaku, Sasuke thought it was just a giant fox. Am I wrong or nah? I know the kages and other high ranked shinobi know that 9 bijuus exist, but what about the rest of civilization? I know Konoha knows about Kurama because he destroyed their village, but does Konoha's population know that 8 other of those huge beasts exist? Same goes for other villages, other than their home bijuu, do they know about the other bijuu?

Yes, it's common knowledge. The Juubi was not though.

Also, in the manga, it was just a giant fox that he transformed into to fight Shukaku. In the anime it was the Kyuubi.
