Is Shikaku really the smartest?

Every time there's a discussion about who's the smartest person in Naruto, I always see Shikaku's name being mentioned the most. I can only remember one example of him demonstrating his brains and that was with his battle plan for the war. At least with contenders like Kakashi and Itachi, there are several examples of them coming across pretty clever.
Can anyone shed some light on why Shikaku is such a genius?
If you could provide some examples and not just say "because he is" it would be much appreciated.

The Smartest person in Naruto is Masashi Kishimoto. Other than tht it is very hard to decide so lets say everyone in Naruto is intelligent some of them jkust dont know what to do with it (Sakura)

Because Shikamaru has been praised for being similar to his father in the way they think. Also the original Ino-Shika-Cho wasn't praised for no reason. The new Ino-Shika-Cho take after their parents almost exactly like a mirror (everyone in the manga says so). Though I do understand why you are asking what you are asking, we've rarely seen action involving Shikakku.

Analytically, yes. But remember, there are different types of 'smart'. Some characters excell in battle smarts. Others just have a high IQ or are suited to planning. It depends which one you hold in the highest regard.

Well Shikaku and Shikamaru have been shown to have amazing analytical ability. Kakashi has shown more impressive feat in his intelligence, but i believe shikamaru and even shikaku would have found that out or another way to hit him.

I believe Shikaku is the most STRATEGICALLY(check spelling? lol) smart character in naruto. We haven't seen him fight before so we dont know his battle smarts. but im thinking its very high considering shikamaru is a genius when it comes to battle smarts.

I couldn't remember the manga page but I remember the anime episode and the raikage said "No wonder we could not take down the leaf. You are blessed with fine shinobi, Tsunade." He didn't say they couldn't defeat the leaf because of Shikaku, he was making a general compliment to the leaf shinobi.

I wasn't trying to compare them or start a thread about who's the smartest. You're not really replying correctly to what I asked. Also I think Itachi planting that amaterasu in sasuke to react to tobi's eyes is more than just battle smarts. So I'd say your statement saying he only has battle smarts is incorrect. I also think you can't have battle smarts without having good analytical abilities, so I don't really see your point.

Well the Nara Clan are all blessed with a super high intellect level so forming strategies and analysing various situations is easy for them. He proved his worth when he constructed an almost perfect war plan for the ASNF so there is no denying the fact that Shikaku was born genius.

I'm not trying to deny the fact he could be very smart. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any other examples that show off his intelligence.
