Is Sasuke the saving grace of this manga?

Without Sasuke I would've gave up on the manga

Not really. I prefer Orochimaru and the Akatsuki's role in the plot far more than Sasuke.

And Sasuke's existance is central to the plot. He doesn't just complain. He accomplishes things. Even if you don't like his actions, it is a fact that his actions are central to the plot.

Didnt kishi add sasuke at the last minute since one of his editors thought naruto should have a rival? Tbh sasuke is a good character but by no means kishis only or best. Kishi has shown that he can build strong and complex characters so if sasuke didn't exist it wouldn't make much difference. Someone else would have come up to fill a void.

In all honesty the manga may have been better without him since the Uchiha clan wouldn't have got as much emphasis and the development of other characters or clans would have been more fleshed out.

Kishi has shown that he can build strong and complex characters so if sasuke didn't exist it wouldn't make much difference. Someone else would have come up to fill a void.

this^. to be honest since the start of shippuden naruto chasing sasuke has been nothing but side stories, the central plot which was more interesting than naruto chasing sasuke and whatnot, was the akatsuki and Bijuus.

1) A huge portion of the Chuunin exams arc is about Orochimaru getting ready to take Sasuke's power and what follows
2) Sasuke retrieval arc
3) Sasuke and Sai arc
4) Pursuing Itachi arc
5) Gokage summit arc
6) Sasuke is what caused the edo Hokage to be brought back which shaped the current arc

Sasuke wasn't added at the last minute. If you look into Sasuke's character and see the mythological parallels. Kishi used a lot of references to make up Sasuke's character. As the Editor stated Naruto needed a rival, and since rivals tend to be the total opposite of the MC it would still be Sasuke. He may have different hair, different jutsu, a different clan, or even a different back story, but it would probably still be Sasuke just from a different angle.

That is like Saying "if Naruto wasn't the main character, a different character would come to fill in the void". ANother character could have been created, but Sasuke was, hence, he is a central and important character

number 3 and 4 where not need at all to the main plot. and number 5 was a add on so that obito would have a new play thing.
