Is power REALLY everything?

I know this is a shounen series, but it does seem to be overtly power-centric sometimes. Which brings me to this question: Are people mostly drawn to power? Is that really all that matters when it comes to a character's worth in this show?! In other words, would you reject a character with a good personality, interesting design and keen intellect just because you deem them weak?! Because it all seems so stupid to me. It's just as bad as only liking a character for their looks! If you ask me, just because a character isn't one of the more powerful characters or has no relevance to the plot does NOT make them bad characters by any means! In fact, you need those kinds of characters in shows like this to create diversity or else the show would be boring! What are your thoughts on this?

hence people like shikamaru....
he's jutsus are weak but he is one of the smartest people around.
kakashi is a bit like that too...
he is strong but his stamina leave little to be desired.

It's very unlikely there is a character that doesn't have much power has that cool personality. Except shikamaru, cause he doesn't care if has powers or not. Power is everything in the Naruto series. Most of the time.

and interesting, if non would get stronger and non to seek greather power the series would stop up and be uninteresting. and face it we like powerfull people with good intenstion, theres a reason we all like to read this manga and that we watched superman, spiderman etc when we were young!

Power is useless unless it can be applied to something. Think of it in terms of evolution, if everything were to remain = in terms of power and abilities, nothing would ever change and things would be stagnent and stale. Also if a charater is introduced in a story and they dont ever change or adapt to new situations, its going to be a pretty lame story. In terms of Naruto its like saying would naruto be as cool or as good today if he was still getting stabbed every time he needed to use rasangan, he would be a dead ninja like Jirya said. Naruto or any series would be over before it began, with out a good/better antagonist.

Oh boy, you guys are misinterpreting my question. I know power plays a huge role in the story, but what I'm trying to get at is that do most of you only like the most power-haxxed characters and reject the less powerful characters even if they have a good personality or look? Or is how much power a character has pretty much the only thing that determines whether or not you like the character?

kishi's getting there. in order to be strong you must believe and literally train hard. not ***** foot around
