Orochimaru's combat power, without Edo Tensei, was never anything special... he relies on snakes/poison/swords. He's "decently" fast, but nothing special compared to other S-class ninjas. His durability is decent, in the sense that he can replace his body to shrug off otherwise-mortal wounds, but he still takes the damage and has to spend chakra to replace himself. He has a decent knowledge of cursed seals, as demonstrated against Spiral Zetsu, Naruto, and Sasuke, but it's nothing to get worked up about.

Against anyone who can defeat large snake summons, Orochimaru's firepower is decidedly lacking. Orochimaru's true power was always outside of simple combat strength; he has possibly the greatest knowledge of jutsu, and is immortal.

He does things that only a Rinnegan user should be able to do (create life, revive himself, revive the dead, etc.). He was able to deduce the nature of Uchiha/Senju and their relation to the Rinnegan, purely through research. The Uchiha had a friggin tablet telling them all of that information, and it took hundreds of years for a single Uchiha to actually decipher it and attempt it. Even then, Orochimaru's fusion of Senju/Uchiha was stronger than Madara's (Madara's Hashirama strength was dramatically increased by Kabuto's modifications, which resulted from Orochimaru's research).

Basically, Orochimaru is godly, and Kishi confirmed at the NY Comic Con that Orochimaru will be around long after the heroes are dead. I'm sure in a thousand years Orochimaru will have reinvented himself to the point where he obtains true enlightenment; his major development throughout the manga has been about discovering that his motivations were misguided. I like that Orochimaru decided to stop being "evil." It's friggin awesome that Orochimaru, of all people, actually decided to produce a child of his own, and that kid is teammates with the children of Naruto/Sasuke. Passing on his will to the new generation is a different type of "immortality" for Orochimaru, and Mitsuki is interesting; he obviously is a decent guy, and is wise for his age.

Kishi hated orochimaru like anything. He made us see that Itachi is not stronger than Jiraya but again made Orochimaru lose in front of him. Orochimaru was always haing a fever or not well. Kishi really hated him and made my fav lose in the real world, whereas he had the potential t become better than most.

He really wasn't that strong. Maybe if he had Edo Tensei setup but he couldn't mess with Sasuke who knows how to stop it.

I think you are confusing his durability, immortality and craftiness for strength. He was never really a powerful enemy though. Good enough to stop a Hiruzen who was forced out of retirement but he couldn't deal with a wild 4 tail pre KCM Naruto and got outdid in his own genjutsu world by a young sasuke. Sonned by a young itachi as well.

He was a very smart and knowledgeable guy and that is very respectable but I never looked at him as overwhelmingly powerful just extremely dangerous .

To be fair, Sasuke did catch him at his weakest.

But once Sasuke defeated him and eventually brought him back, it could have gotten much more interesting than Kishi wrote it.

I mean, he got his arms back, but Kishi neutered him anyway by turning him into a fanboy.

This is true but even when shippuden started Oro acknowledged that Sasuke was probably stronger than him. Oro is just too weak against the sharingan. Once sasuke matured it was over.

And I actually liked when he decided to chill after he was revived. Kabuto had already basically showed us what Oro in a decent body is like. Having him do the exact same thing again would've been pointless to me.

Oro made Kakashi shit his pants.
Oro has the dead Hokage's under his control.
Oro is practically immortal.
Hebi Sasuke admitted inferiority.
Oro didn't get his deserved spotlight because he had to face the Solo King Itachi.
