I'm looking to cite Narutobase in my dissertation. For referencing purposes, is the website owned by anyone?

Ah, it likely doesn't fit the Chicago referencing style then. It's not quite like the base is owned by a corporate like Fox or Disney, my mistake.

In what context would you possibly cite something in Narutobase for a dissertation, if I may so ask?

Fandom Studies! Well, more like a Literary dissertation. Starting research into Death of the Author and the basic question is: 'Who Owns Art? ..the author or the culture that receives it?'

The distinction and rejection of anime 'filler' is a bizarre controversy that works as a pretty great example of audience behaviour. It'd be one of 3-4 case studies.

That's actually really interesting. There is a lot to say on people's obsessions on what is 'canon' and what is not and why they see it as such, Disney buying Star Wars and the fan rage that followed thereafter being the first example that comes to mind. It says a lot on the way people view this kind of media, though I admit that weirdly enough I never really stopped to seriously think on it despite how often its brought up.

I'm pretty sure Minamoto runs it from the shadows.

Star Wars is another example i'm using! George Lucas has basically been disowned by the Star Wars fans and makes huge changes to his works through the special editions. Which would be fine...until the author makes the original version obsolete and impossible to find. To me, SW is more than a little bit a piece of pop culture by now, would somebody be allowed to paint over the Mona Lisa to improve it?

Plus like you said, in the shift to Disney- the current writers and directors were influenced past fans themselves. So now we have a generation of fans as the official writers and directors of the canon. Disney saying the Expanded Universe 'didn't happen' is pretty intense and worth exploring.
