It's obviously a sun. The way the Staff has those little circles represent the rays.

But the Sun isn't the opposite of the moon. The sun can swallow the moon whole a couple billion times over. Moon is fodder.

It's the sun.

Yang=sun/heart/Earth/life
Yin=half moon/spirit/heaven/power

Its the sun and moon, not two moons. As siege said, the moon is not represented as a circle, ever. That one panel of Ashura having a full moon behind him is throwing people off...every other piece of symbolism shown leads to the fact that sasuke is the moon(yin) and naruto is the sun(yang).

Hey guys why can't it represent all of those things? You can't get any more ambiguous than a freaking circle and throughout the last few chapters it appears in motifs for suns and moons.

You guys are making lists to compare all the different things that each side represents, but are at the same time weirdly dead set that the picture can only depict one thing and nothing else.

....I say the tattoos represent the rasengan and a lick of amaterasu flame.... both parts of the collaboration technique they came up with.
