Is Naruto and the Kyuubi ACTULLY FRIENDS?

When I read the manga I dont read the boring parts tsunade talking to the raikage or shikaku getting information about the enemys. In the manga I like to just read the fights like right now,Sasuke and Itachi VS Kabuto. I was on this thread and I heard Kurama and Naruto are friends I know that Naruto controlled Kyuubi but I still dont understand. So..does that mean like Naruto is controlling Kyuubis mind? or what please explain as much as you can.
