he's not evil, he's just a bad person :)
I say this is 99% correct and put very simply.
He was a man who did what he truly THOUGHT was right. Problem is, his perception was in error and he had NO problem crossing the line to get what he wanted.
He was angry, tired, in pain, manipulated, exiled and the list goes on. I'm in no way justifying what he did and I still think he was a troll by the time he met his demise, but he needed power to protect his entire family through most of his youth--and that power came primarily from anger. Anger corrupts and misleads.

Going by my definition he wasn't. His goal was understandable and the best way to achieve total peace, if it wouldn't been for the whole Zetsus thing.
However, his way to accomplish it was messed up. Does the end justify his means ? That's debatable...

His motives were pure, but his methods were not. He really did mean to create peace for the world, but the way he went about doing it was equivalent to creating a totalitarian society.

I started rewatching the war arc and reading the war arc manga because with all these fillers, I can't remember anything about it. So look at Madara, I can't tell if he is good or evil.

Madara did wipe out most of the Allied Shinobi Force when he was first revived. There was no need to do that. Also hurling meteors down from the sky was uncalled for too.
So that's the evil bit and the fact that he f'ed up Obito on purpose. VERY EVIL.

But his plan was to get to peace by creating false peace. Is this evil? No it's not. But he is doing it by force and IT is just you living in a dream world with people who are just illusions. You would think that you wouldn't be happy but we were shown some of the illusions of characters in IT and it's like their memory is wiped so they don't even know that all these people are illusions. And, they will never find out while in IT.

Essentially just for fun, let's say IT was real and happened. We wouldn't know if we are real and everything else is an illusion. We just naturally think, everything is real.

So what do you guys think? Good or evil?
He's necessary evil

i believe he was simply being a someone who took it upon himself to eliminate the real root of the lack of a permanent peace, even if it meant having to do things others would've detested to make it a reality. Someone who is evil certainly has no honor code, let alone the kind Madara had. Madara's only real crime was in caring about the state of the world to the extent that he'd go to the lengths no one else could go to fix it.

A bit. He's a brutal sado-masochist who was too deluded by his own grandeur to see that people like himself were the source of, in his eyes, the world's problems. Though in the end he truly did want peace. He's a flip flopper.

Tobirama said Infinite Tsukuyomi may actually be a good idea. But someone like Madara should never control it. Pretty good assessment.

Think about it like this, Madara wanted peace where there was no wars or conflict at all. There was nothing wrong with what he wanted but the way he went about doing things that was Terrible.

In Madara's case make a few people go through hell (Obito, Nagato, Naruto, Sasuke, etc) so that everybody else can live in Bliss and happiness. He was thinking about the bigger picture.

But Does that Make Madara Evil? No

Does that Make him a Bad Person? Yes
