No, you misinterpreted what I meant. I mean the clan as a whole would see him as an "ancestor" of sorts. He is say what, a century old for example. The clan by the time of the kyuubi attack would refer to him as their ancestor as he still holds blood ties to the clan.

There can be more than one ancestor. If there is more that a few generations difference between people they would be seen as the ancestor. Indra is the ancestor of the Uchiha just as much as Hagoromo, or Kaguya, do you see? Also it's a clan of people, they are all related even if not directly.
